Volcane Spins, one week later

Volcane Spins, one week later

July 6, 2026 · Mikkel Sørensen

When we first wrote about Volcane Spins we called it a great pick-up-and-play arcade game, and a week on that still holds. What surprised us is how much the skill ceiling opened up once the basics became automatic. Early runs felt like reacting to tiles; now they feel like reading the board a couple of moves ahead.

The trick that changed everything for us was learning to spin the outer ring early. If you wait until a tile is already falling, you're always a beat behind. Set the outer position first, then fine-tune the inner ring, and your combos last far longer. It sounds obvious written down, but it took a few hundred runs to really internalise.

There's a quiet rhythm to the better runs too. The board glow builds as your combo climbs, and you start playing to that visual feedback almost without thinking. It's a small design touch that does a lot of work.

If there's a complaint after a week, it's that we'd love a few more board layouts to keep things fresh. The core loop is strong enough to carry it for now, and we're still opening it on the commute, which is the real test.
