Hollowroot Expedition
★★★★★ 4.5
Hollowroot Expedition is a quiet, atmospheric adventure game with gorgeous hand-drawn screens. You poke around a ruin swallowed by forest, piecing together what happened through notes, puzzles and a lot of careful looking. There's no combat and no timer — it's about curiosity.
The puzzles sit at a nice difficulty. Most clicked within a few minutes of properly thinking, and the couple that stumped us had a logic that felt fair once we got there. We never reached for a hint, which says something.
It's not a long game, maybe four or five hours, but it's the kind you'll remember. The ending landed better than we expected for something this understated.
